HONOR YOURSELF WITH .........CONSERVATION

CONSERVATION is a state of MINDFUL RELAXATION. PRESERVATION and PROTECTION of resources.

If you are anything like me, you feel you have to stay busy all of the time.  Idleness, you have perhaps been told is a sign of laziness.  We often work ourselves into a frenzy, being busy little bees, flitting around doing a little bit of this and a lot of that.  Constantly on the go till one morning we wake up and feel exhausted!  Many of us do not know how to relax, or how to conserve our energy.

Relaxation is the best way to conserve your energy and add years to your life..  It begins with rethinking and relearning busy behavior patterns.

Are you the first to jump up and clean off the table? or the first to say, " I"ll help" or  "you relax, I'll do that!"  We got stars for that in first grade, remember how you raised your hand and begged to clean the board or the erasers?  The busy-ness  started way back then.  We were rewarded for being willing to do more than our share and encouraged to stay busy.
As a result, we learned to inflict ourselves with self-imposed duties that ultimately lead to mental, physical, and spiritual exhaustion.   No one is going to give you a lolly or a star for washing the dishes that no one bothered to help you with the night before, even though they wolfed down their meal with barely a thank you.

CONSERVATION REQUIRES A WILLINGNESS TO BE STILL AND RUN THE RISK OF LOOKING LAZY!
It not only encompasses being physically still, it extends to mental and emotional stillness.
In this way, you not only conserve you physical body, you include your mind and spirit as well.

YOU DESERVE TO REST, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO MOVE AT A PACE THAT IS COMFORTABLE FOR YOU.

You need time to yourself, for yourself, and with yourself, if you want to remain sane.  Constant busy-ness can lead to insanity!!
I have been there, to the point were I ended up having a complete breakdown, and now suffer with adrenal fatigue.  It is back to that word CHOICE again.  I now CHOOSE to rest because I know the consequences of not resting on my health which in turn affects not only myself but those around me.

Unfortunately, we learn to measure our importance in life by the number of things we are doing.  When we have nothing to do, we feel useless.  In the worst-case scenarios, we can believe we are worthless.

In much the same way that we have not been taught to conserve our selves, we missed the lesson in CONSERVING OUR RESOURCES.  Time, money, and knowledge are all resources worthy of conserving.  Spending your time doing things that do not bring you or anyone pleasure or joy is a waste of valuable resource.
Spending your money in ways and on things that do not benefit you or anyone else is a waste of your resources.  Trying to convince people that there is something you know that could be beneficial to them when they are resistant to hearing you is a waste of valuable resources.

WHEN WE LEARN THE VALUE OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE HAVE, WE BECOME MINDFUL OF CONSERVATION.

The greatest enemy to the principle of conservation is  THE FEAR OF BEING LAXY, STINGY, AND SELFISH.  For some strange reason, we actually believe that to preserve what we have for our own benefit is a bad thing.  If you are intelligent, people expect you to share your knowledge.  Yet teachers are among the lowest-paid people in our society.  If you are wealthy, you are expected to give your money to those less fortunate than you.  Yes, giving and sharing are wonderful things, however, just because you have several million dollars in the bank does not mean you must find ways to give it away.

To close your door, pull down the shades, take the phone off the hook, turn off the mobile, and spend quiet time alone, does not translate into being standoffish or that anything is wrong with you.
YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO SAY NO!
CONSERVATION BEGINS WITH HONORING YOUR SELF ENOUGH TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH YOU AWAY FROM EVERYONE ELSE.

Conservation is a form of healing that results in SELF-AWARENESS, SELF-FORGIVENESS, and SELF- ESTEEM.  As you learn to conserve your movements, energy, and resources, you learn to heal yourself from destructive behavior patterns.  These patterns often lead to self-inflicted nonsense most closely associated with a FALSE SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY!!!!
Constant busy-ness results in the belief that we are responsible for people, circumstances, and situations that may have absolutely nothing to do with our own well being.

CONSERVATION ALSO THEN ALLOWS FOR THE HEALING OF OUR BELIEF SYSTEM.

The things we were taught and experienced as children are the foundation of our beliefs.  Many of these beliefs are toxic and self-defeating.  Most often than not, what we do, how we do it, and why we do it are an outgrowth of these toxic, self-defeating, self-denying experiences.
Through conservation of self and our resources we learn to heal these wounds.  As we do, we become physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually sound.
When you are well rested and financially secure, and when you understand the value of your mere presence on the planet, you are able to give more when you do give.
CONSERVATION helps you give your best when you are giving, doing, or being.

You don't always have to have something to do.  When you do have something to do, do it at a pace that is comfortable.  Don't rush.  Don't compete.  Spend your time in a state of mental, emotional relaxation, knowing that everything always gets done in the right time and according to the right order.

Remember your parents or your grandparents giving you some pocket money and saying to you,  "Now don't go spending it all in one place" a good wise amendment is " Don't spend it all, keep some for a rainy day, and if it never rains in your life, keep it anyway.  Conserve some of your resources for yourself.

LEARNING TO RELAX AND CONSERVE YOUR NATURAL ENERGIES IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GIFTS YOU CAN GIVE TO YOURSELF.

So, after reading today's blog, I realize................................................................................................

( Mine is, I expend quickly and am always in a state of feeling drained, I need to build a reserve bank and deposit daily by conservation of my energy )

The Key phrase(s) I want to remember and work with today are.......................................................

  1. How do you do it? How do you always post exactly what I need to read? I am sitting here, exhausted thinking how I must go and do some more work when really all I want to do is GO TO BED!!! Work can wait!! Thanks Melanie!

  2. Wow Mel that is such an inspirational piece of writing. I often feel that life is far too busy, and yest I feel guilty when I want to take a nap in the afternoon, or laze on the sofa and read a good book. I immerse myself in activity much of the day and get about 4-6 hours sleep a night (if I'm lucky). I am made to feel guilty in my workplace if I am seen sitting and taking a breather. You have made me think about myself and my needs - thank you :)

  3. This is something I have had to teach myself! i used to be that person who offered to help with everything and run myself ragged. Now my friends and family know, if they ask and I say no, I mean it! I will not exhaust myself over these trivial things! Thanks for the reminder! <3

  4. I'm reading this a day late, because yesterday I was "too busy" to make the time. If that doesn't tell you how badly I needed this, nothing will. I couldn't give myself even five minutes to devote to your blog, which has come to mean so much to me. You always speak directly to my soul, and for that, my friend, I thank you!!
